Vistra to buy Cogentrix Energy in $4.7bn deal

Vistra has agreed to acquire Cogentrix Energy in a cash-and-stock deal worth around $4.7bn. The consideration is made up of $2.3bn in cash, $900m in Vistra stock and the assumption of $1.5bn in debt, partially offset by tax benefits expected to total roughly $700m. Through the deal, Vistra will add ten natural gas-fired power plants with a combined capacity of around 5.5GW, bringing Vistra’s total generation capacity to nearly 50GW across the US.

B&W selects Siemens Energy turbines for 1GW data centre power project

Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) has chosen Siemens Energy to supply steam turbine generator sets for Applied Digital’s data centre power project, for which B&W has agreed to develop and install four 300MW natural gas-fired power plants. The partnership enables B&W to proceed with its plan to deliver 1GW to the facility by the end of 2028. The companies have agreed on a limited notice to proceed, with the comprehensive contract expected in Q1 2026.

Matrix Renewables signs EPC contract with Tesla for BESS project in Scotland

Matrix Renewables has entered a comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with Tesla to build, design and commission a standalone 500MW/1GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Eccles, Scotland. All planning requirements have been met, and the project has received full approval to begin construction. This project represents Matrix Renewables’ first standalone BESS project in the UK market.

OMV secures $144m for Austrian green hydrogen project

OMV has secured up to €123m ($143.7m) in production funding from Austria Wirtschaftsservice to develop a 140MW green hydrogen electrolyser plant in Bruck an der Leitha, Austria. The plant, set to come online by the end of 2027, aims to produce up to 23,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, becoming one of Europe’s five largest green hydrogen production sites.
